Mind Your Mates
Most of us have done physical first aid. Far fewer of us know what to do when a mate's struggling. This 45-minute toolbox talk changes that.
If life is in danger, call Triple Zero (000). For 24/7 crisis support, call 13 11 14.
Would you know the signs?
How do we know when someone, one of your mates, isn’t necessarily coping, or may be developing a mental health problem? Most of us have heard of, or undertaken, training in physical first aid. But when it comes to mental health or emotional first aid, we are not so well trained or equipped.
What the session covers
Mind Your Mates is a 45-minute ‘toolbox talk’ which will enable you to recognise the signs of depression, anxiety and thoughts of suicide in your mate. The presentation is delivered by Lifeline skills-for-life suicide prevention trainers.
It is designed to fit into a normal work or club meeting, short enough to run at a site toolbox meeting or before training, and practical enough that people leave knowing what to actually say.
