Why volunteer with Lifeline Mid Coast?

Every day, our staff and volunteers provide support, hope and practical assistance to people across the Mid Coast. Whether you’re answering crisis calls, helping in a shop, driving a truck or working behind the scenes, you are part of something bigger.

You’ll meet new people, learn new skills, give back to your community, and help save Australian lives.

Ways to volunteer

On the crisis line

As a Telephone Crisis Supporter you answer calls to 13 11 14 from your local Lifeline Centre, listening to what’s going on for the person who has contacted you and supporting them to find their next step. You’ll complete nationally accredited training, delivered face to face and online, and you’ll be supported all the way through. Read about the training and commitment.

In our shops

Retail shop volunteers sort and price donations, serve customers and keep the shop floor looking good. Shifts are flexible and there’s a role for most levels of mobility and confidence. We have shops in Port Macquarie (two), Wauchope, Wingham, Forster and Kempsey.

Behind the wheel

Retail truck driver volunteers collect donated furniture and larger goods, and move stock between shops. If you’re comfortable with a small truck and a hand trolley, this one is genuinely valued, free furniture pick-up is only possible because of these volunteers.

At events

We also need help at community events through the year, including the Out of the Shadows Walk and our memorial services.

What we ask

  • Empathy, compassion and reliability
  • A desire to make a positive difference in your community
  • For crisis line roles: completion of the accredited training, a minimum of four hours per fortnight, and a police check, which we pay for
  • For shop roles: a few hours a week, and a willingness to pitch in
