How we approach suicide prevention
Suicide prevention is not one program. It is a crisis line that answers at 3am, a group where someone can say the word “suicide” out loud without flinching, a bereavement circle for the people left behind, and training that helps a neighbour notice when something is wrong.
Lifeline Mid Coast runs all of these locally, across the Mid North Coast. Everything below is free to the people who use it.
Our programs

Eclipse
A closed, confidential group for adults who have survived a suicide attempt. Participants start together and complete eight weeks as one group, which makes it easier to share. Eclipse offers a chance to learn skills for coping with thoughts of suicide and staying safe in future. Read more about Eclipse.
Support After Suicide
Bereavement groups for adults who have lost someone to suicide. They are open groups. You are welcome to attend as you feel the need, and they are facilitated by trained people who have also lost a loved one to suicide. Read more about Support After Suicide.
Toward Recovery
A free, 12-week, peer-led program focused on practical, non-clinical support for people who have experienced a suicide attempt or who struggle with suicidal thoughts or self-harm. Read more about Toward Recovery.
Bloom Support Group
A support group for people experiencing suicidal ideation or self-harm. Read more about Bloom.
Training and community education
For suicide intervention training, including the pathway to becoming a Crisis Supporter on 13 11 14, see training and education. Community awareness sessions such as Mind Your Mates help workplaces, clubs and community groups recognise the signs and start a conversation.
Awareness events
Our community gathers each year for the Out of the Shadows Walk and for Memorial Services remembering those we have lost.
How to get started
Call Lifeline Mid Coast on (02) 6581 2800 to talk through any questions. For most groups a short conversation, sometimes a face-to-face interview, helps us both check the program is a good fit before you begin.
