What is the Toward Recovery program?
Toward Recovery is a psychosocial support program for people who have been through a suicidal crisis, a suicide attempt, or self-harm. It runs for 12 weeks, it is free, and the focus is practical, non-clinical support.
Our peer support workers have lived experience of suicide themselves. They walk alongside participants rather than treating them, which is what makes this different from a clinical service.
This Lifeline psychosocial program is accredited by Suicide Prevention Australia QIP. It is designed to support individuals to regain stability and reintegrate into daily life in their community, in collaboration with other mental health professionals.
What the program covers
Program support areas may include:
- Daily living support: crisis support and personal safety planning.
- Referrals and advocacy: help connecting with ongoing services and Lifeline support groups, and support with applications and referrals.
- Engagement and empowerment: wellbeing check-ins, help managing appointments, and support with transport.
Finishing the program
A transition plan is created as participants near the end of the program, to ensure all necessary referrals are completed and to identify support services for continued care if needed.
